Telecom Minister to meet DEITY officials tomorrow

Telecom and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will meet officials of Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITy) for the second time to take detail presentation of issues and proposed action plan.

"Tomorrow I will go to IT (ministry) and share time with them," Prasad said after completing his second round of meeting with Department of Telecom Officials.

The Minister took about 2 hours long presentation again from DoT officials understanding major issues and aftermath of 2G spectrum case.

"I took presentation around issues including 2G. It was acclimatisation exercises and about issue on which they are working. I go deep in to details, therefore it took 2 hour in presentation. Its my style of functioning," Prasad said.
 

Prasad had about 2 hour long meeting with DoT officials on Tuesday when he took charge as telecom minister.

The Minister after meeting DoT officials had said that improving quality of service for consumers interest and restoring investors confidence will be his top priority.

Prasad has said that he will focus at building broadband highways across country for proliferation of high speed Internet services.

After DoT, Prasad visited DEITY where he met officials for about one and half hour and identified electronics manufacturing as area of his "concerns and interests".

UPA regime approved first ever policy focused on electronics manufacturing in 2013. The policy attracted investment worth Rs 75,000 crore.

Major chunk of total proposed investments, about Rs 63,000 crore, was from two semiconductor plants which is yet to be made by selected groups.

Many of the electronics projects were stuck due to delay in environment clearances.
