Temperature hits record minus two degrees in Ooty

The temperature in and around this hill station, a major tourist destination, dipped to a record minus two degree celsius early today, with frost covering almost 20 kms area.

Tourists and residents ventured out only after 8.30 AM as the biting cold forced them to stay indoors, TNEB sources said.

The weather meter in the power house in Sandinalla recorded minus two degrees in this town, Sandinalla, Glenmorgan and Thalakunda areas, they said.

Heavy frost fell in about 15 to 20 kms surroundings of this town, which normally records a temperature of 18 to 20 degree celsius, they said.
