Temperature plunges as rain lashes Punjab and Haryana

Rain today lashed several places in Punjab and Haryana plunging maximum temperature by up to three notches below normal in most parts of the states.

The maximum temperature in most parts of Punjab and Haryana hovered between one notch below normal to three notches below normal, the MeT office said here.

While Amritsar recorded a maximum of 11.2 mm of rainfall, Karnal received 9.2 mm of rain.

Chandigarh, joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, received 4.1 mm of rainfall followed by Patiala (1.7 mm), Ludhiana (0.7 mm), Ambala (0.5 mm) and Hisar (0.3 mm), the MeT department said.

Amritsar settled at a high of 33.6 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, followed by Ludhiana and Hisar 33.3 degrees Celsius each which was three notches each below normal.
 

The maximum temperature in Karnal settled at 32.4 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, followed by Ambala and Patiala 32.1 and 31.9 respectively, both two notches below normal.

The MeT has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 48 hours.
