After a brief cool climate due to low pressure induced rainfall across the state, mercury level today rose again in Odisha with nine districts recording above 40 degree Celsius.
Though there was no heatwave condition, the state's highest temperature of 42.7 degree Celsius was recorded at Hirakud, followed by 42.6 degree C at Sambalpur, 42.5 at Titlagarh, 41.3 at Jharsuguda, 41.5 at Bhawanipatna and 41.2 at Sonepur.
Though temperature in the capital city remained below 40 degree C, intense humidity of 83 per cent made life miserable here.
A release from the local met office, however, forecast rain or thundershower at one or two places in the interior and other parts of Odisha in the next 72 hours. This will lead to reduction of temperature from June 2.
"As the condition for the advance of southwest monsoon is favourable, it is expected that it would hit the Odisha coast in the second week of June," said Dr Sarat Sahu, director of the met office here.
