The mercury came down marginally in north India today bringing some relief after days of blistering heat in the region.
In Delhi, a long spell of searing heat was broken today as the maximum took a slight dip to settle close to 40 degrees Celsius.
The day temperature in the national capital today was 2.4 degrees lower than yesterday at 40.4 degrees, which the MeT office described as being normal for this time of the season.
The minimum temperature remained same as yesterday at 27.8 degrees, one notch above normal.
Punjab and Haryana, too, reported similar weather conditions today with temperatures in the two neighbouring states coming down in a welcome change from the heat wave conditions.
The maximum in their common capital and Union territory of Chandigarh dropped by over three degrees from yesterday to settle at 38.3 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, the MeT office said.
Hisar and Bhiwani in Haryana, where the mercury had been hovering close to 45 degrees over the past few days, too, saw temperatures come down to settle at 41.1 and 41.4 degrees, respectively.
However, Narnaul continued to sizzle at 44 degrees, up three degrees.
In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximums of 40.2 and 40.6 degrees, respectively, down two notches from yesterday. But the mercury was up two notches in Amritsar which recorded a maximum of 42.2 degrees.
