Temperatures soar in Punjab and Haryana

People of Punjab and Haryana today reeled under sweltering heat conditions as mercury crossed the 40 degree mark at most places in the states.

Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a high of 39.2 degree Celsius, up by a degree above normal, a MeT department officials said.

Mercury in Punjab's Amritsar city touched 40.4 degree Celsius, a degree above normal. While in Ludhiana and Patiala maximum temperatures settled at 40.5 degree Celsius and 40.8 degree Celsius respectively, rising by three degrees above normal.

In Haryana state, Narnaul sizzled at 41 degree Celsius, up by one degree above normal while Bhiwani recorded a high of 41.6 degree Celsius.
 

The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy sky with a possibility of dust-storm or thunderstorm and light rains in Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours.
