Temple caretaker murdered in Jalna

The caretaker of a temple was murdered in broad daylight near here in Central Maharashtra today, police said.

The incident took place at Bhokardan Chowk, where a group of 3-4 men, armed with swords and sharp weapons, attacked Gopal Goverdhan Sharma, who looked after a Hanuman temple in the city, Inspector Gajanan Jaybhaye said.

He received serious injuries in the stomach, chest, head, hands and legs. He was taken to a local hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A property dispute is said to have led to the murder, which created tension in the area.

One of the suspects, Gopal Avdood, has been arrested.
