Temple idols found desecrated

Three idols were found desecrated at a temple at Pattanam in the rural limits today, police said.

The management had cleaned the temple premises after the usual pooja last night, police said.

A temple committee member noticed the door of sanctum sanctorum broke open and idol of Iranya Karupparayan, the presiding deity at the 150-year-old temple, lying on the floor of the sanctum sanctorum this morning, police said.

The idols of Muniyappan and Ayyanar were found broken and some tridents and spears around the temple detached and thrown down, they said.

A case has been registered on a complaint from the temple management, police said.
