The oldest temple in the Krishna district today suffered damaged as a thunderbolt struck it, however no one was injured, officials said.
A few cracks developed in the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple at Bachupet here and the eastern and western side of the 'Raja Gopuram' were too damaged after the thunderbolt struck it this morning, Temple Executive Officer G Veerabadhra Chary told PTI.
Heavy rains were reported in the area in and around the temple this morning. Nobody was injured as no one was present when the incident occurred, Chary said.

According to the officer, the temple, the oldest one in the Krishna district, was built in the 16th century and renovated to construct Raja Gopuram in 1987.
"I have visited the temple and took stock of the situation," Chary added.
