At least ten people were injured in a clash between Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) task force and some shop owners near the Golden temple here today, police said.

"The clash took place after SGPC task force personnel allegedly tried to get possession of shops by forcibly evicting shopkeepers from a 'disputed site'," police said.

SGPC task force led by its Vice Manager Parmajit Singh reached on the spot to take possession of the disputed shops following which the shopkeepers allegedly pelted stones and bricks on SGPC task force personnel who responded to the attack, police said.

The shop owners led by Satbir Singh Bajaj said that they had court's stay orders and SGPC task force personnel attempted to demolish their shops.

Golden Temple Manager Partap Singh, however, alleged that they were "attacked by the shopkeepers who were not ready to vacate the property of SGPC as per the written agreements between the two parties."

Singh said five SGPC employees were injured in the attack and admitted to a local hospital.

Bajaj, however, claimed that he and four of his family members and five others were injured during the attack by SGPC task force.

Police said the situation was under control and the matter was being investigated.

Police assured the shop owners that their shops would not be demolished and action would be taken as per the court orders.
