Security forces today defused a 10 kg pipe IED placed by Maoists in the Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh.

Officials said the hidden Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detected this afternoon when a squad of forces led by paramilitary ITBP was out of operations along the Godavari-Dorba road near the Khadgaon village.

"The IED was built inside a metal pipe and weighed about 10 kgs. It was hidden beneath the dirt track to target security forces," a senior official said.

It was defused by the troops of the 28th battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police deployed in the Left Wing Extremism-hit areas of Rajnandgaon, they said.
