Ten persons including five women and two children, were today killed in a ghastly road accident in Arapalli village, about 30 kms from here, police said.

The mishap took place this afternoon when nine members of two families were travelling in a six-seater autorickshaw. The vehicle collided with a speeding lorry loaded with sand, according to Sircilla Deputy Superintendent of Police Damera Narsaiah.

The families were on their way for seeking blessings of Lord Sri Rajarajeshwara Swamy at a temple in Vemulawada. Due to the collision, all the passengers were killed on the spot, Narsaiah said.

The lorry driver fled from the spot and a search was on for him, he added.

The bodies were shifted to Sircilla Government Hospital for post-mortem, the Dy SP said, adding the deceased haven't been identified yet.
