Ten killed in road accident

At least 22 people of a Bharwad (shepherd) family were returning home to Surat from Bhavnagar late last night after attending a family function, when the mishap occurred, they said.

The driver lost control while trying to overtake a truck and the van overturned killing seven women, two children and a man on the spot. The injured were rushed to Sir T hospital in Bhavnagar, police said.

The deceased were identified as Janu Chela Bharvad (3), Tidi Bhura (50), Jassi Ajubhai (28), Jeevu Nanubhai (70), Raiya Ranchhod (35), Shantu Bhurabhai (50), Valli Gabhrubhai (22) Laxmi Bharvad (65), Hakka Jeram (40), and a six month old child, police said.

 

A complaint has been lodged against the van driver, who is absconding, police said. PTI VJA DK
