Ten killed, one injured as jeep collides with tanker

Ten persons, including a minor, were killed and one person suffered critical injuries, when a jeep carrying them collided with a tanker in Aravalli district of north Gujarat this evening, police said.

The incident took place near Shamlaji RTO office in Venpur village of Shamlaji taluka around 5.30 pm, Police Sub Inspector Ranjitsinh Pujavat of Shamlaji told PTI.

"Ten persons, including a boy, aged around ten years, were killed on the spot and one person sustained grave injuries, when the jeep carrying them rammed into a tanker," Pujavat said.

The accident took place when the driver of the jeep tried to overtake a truck, but lost control over the vehicle, he added.
 

According to the police officer, the victims were returning from Rangpur village in Shamlaji taluka after attending a wedding ceremony.

"We are trying to establish the identity of the victims," he said.

While the bodies were sent for postmortem, the injured was rushed to a nearby government hospital.
