The incident took place at Bankimkhal village as the perpetrators led by the PDS dealer Ramashray Ram and his kins Amarkant Ram and Harilal Ram attacked their neighbours with lathis and other blunt objects injuring ten of them, the police said.
The attackers also tried to set on fire the houses of the mahadalits to teach them a lesson, they said.
The injured were admitted to the Sadar hospital where the condition of five of them was stated to be serious, the police said.
An FIR has been lodged against the attackers and raids were being carried out to nab the accused persons who were absconding, they said.
Senior civil and police officers rushed to the village to investigate the matter, the sources said.
The incident took place a day after some of the injured persons had submitted an application to the district magistrate apprehending threat to their lives from the attackers over a land dispute, they added.
