At least ten nursing students and a police officer were today injured as police resorted to lathicharge to disperse a group, comprising mostly girls, who were holding protest demanding declaration of the results of examination in which they had appeared last year.
Police said the nursing students were heading towards the the Chief Minister's camp office here when they were stopped.
As the students remained adamant to march towards the camp office, police lathi-charged them and used water canons.
A DSP rank officer was injured.
The students were demanding declaration of the result of their first year examination held in November.
A large number of Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) students have been holding protest at different places in the state in the recent past in support of their demand.
One of the protesting students said today that nearly 8,000 nursing students had appeared for the examination but now the government had left them in the lurch.
Meanwhile, a three-member committee under the Chairmanship of Vice Chancellor of Mahrishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Rajpal was today formed to find out the legality of ANM and GNM exams conducted for which the students are agitating.
Stating this today, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that the committee has been asked to submit its report within seven days.
Other members of the committee are Director, National Health Mission (NHM) S Narayanan and Dr Sanjay Kumar, Controller of examination, University of Health Sciences, Rohtak.
The BJP government in Haryana had earlier cancelled the examinations for Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery and General Nursing and Midwifery courses conducted last year in November owing to alleged irregularities in the examination.
The government had maintained that various irregularities were detected in the examination for ANM and GNM courses in which about 8,000 nursing students had appeared.
It was found that the examination was allegedly not conducted by a proper authority, besides other irregularities.
The result of the students who took the exam had been withheld, Haryana's Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ram Niwas had said last month.
