Ten students injured in stampede in Goa school

At least ten students studying in fifth and sixth standard were today injured in a stampede at a school near Vasco town here, the school authorities said.

The incident happened at Vidya Mandir school in Chicalim area here, when Teachers' day function was cancelled due to power failure and the students were walking down the stairs on the third floor.

"One of the children, who was at a higher stair, slipped and fell on the students who were walking ahead of him. After that, all other students tumbled down the stairs," Khatif Aixambi, a teacher at the school, said.

Eight students were referred to Chicalim Cottage Hospital, while two others were treated at another private hospital, she said.
 

All the students were studying in fifth and sixth standard and were discharged after first aid treatment.
