Formula One driver Nico Rosberg may not be a cricket fan but even the Mercedes racer is sad, along with billion Indians worldwide, at the retirement of veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
"I heard he is retiring. It is a great pity, especially for the Indian public. I met him last year when I was here for the race. He came across as a true F1 fan," Rosberg said ahead of the Indian Grand Prix this weekend.
Talking about cricket, Rosberg said: "The game is not popular in Germany and even in Monaco where I stay now. I have tried following it but I don't really like it. I love football but the thing is I am not really good at it," the German said during a promotional event for Puma here.
Speaking about his banter with Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who is also promoting the same sports and lifestyle brand, Rosberg said: "Yuvi and I are having some chats on Twitter these days. He seems like a fun guy. I hope to see him during the racing weekend."
Yuvraj had tweeted: "You guys wanna meet German racing star Nico Rosberg? A few of you just may be lucky enough...Join the race."
Rosberg replied saying: "would have been great to race against you as well! Maybe next time".
Rosberg is also worried over the proposed weight limits for the 2014 Formula 1 season even though he is one of the lighter drivers on the grid.
The German, at 1.78 metres, is one of the smallest F1 drivers alongside Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez.
"The height is not so much of an issue for me but I have to keep my weight in check. I guess I will have to cut down on the fatty stuff looking at 2014 and may be give up on sweets during Christmas," he said.
The current weight limit of the car and driver is 642kg and with heavier turbo engines to be used next year, the limit has been raised to 690kg. However, much of the extra 48kg is likely to be taken up by the engines.
