Pramod Pawar, father of the budding tennis player Gargi Pawar, was found dead in Wagholi area on the outskirts of Pune early morning today, police said.

Police suspect that he met with an accident while riding a motorbike.

District police said that some local people found Pawar lying on a road near BJP College with injuries to head at around 3 am.

They took him to nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

"His two-wheeler was lying nearby. We suspect that he met with an accident as the bike too was damaged," said an officer of Lonikand police station.

The body had been sent for autopsy, he said.

Gargi Pawar, a promising young tennis player from the city, had won ATF Asian U-14 Series Tennis Tournament in Hyderabad last year.

Her father, resident of Karve Nagar area in Pune, owned a furniture business.
