: Tension prevailed for some time near Police Commissioner's office here today after nearly 200 Popular Front of India activists demanded release of a man, allegedly forcibly taken into custody by CBCID for questioning over the September 22 2016 murder of a Hindu Munnani worker.

CBCID had taken in Syed Abu Dahir, running a footwear and textile shop in Ukkadam area for questioning late last night, police said.

As the news spread, PFI activists gathered in front of the Commissionerate to know the reason behind his being taken into custody, they said.

They dispersed later after Commissioner A Amalraj told a delegation which met him with a petition that CB-CID might have taken him for questioning and he would inquire into it.

Sasikumar was murdered by a four-member gang on the night of September 22 2016 while he was returning home in Thudiyalur on a two wheeler.

Police have yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
