Tension prevailed in Kandhla town in Shamli district over the elopment of a girl with a youth from another community even as police booked two persons, including the head of an ashram, for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the community over the issue.
A case was registered yesterday against Acharya Jasbir Singh and his nephew Jitender for making objectionable remarks against a particular commmunity during a Mahapanchayat meeting which was convened over the issue of the girl's elopment, Circle Officer N P Singh said.
Police are on a lookout for Acharya while Jitender has been arrested, Singh said.

The meeting was convened on December 25 and was also attended by BJP MP Hukum Singh and BJP MLA Suresh Rana.
On the same day, hundreds of members of the other community staged a protest at the police stationdemanding the arrest of Acharya for his remarks.
Meanwhile, the girl was traced in Delhi along with her lover on December 25. She told the police that she had eloped of her own will on November 29, the CO said.
The youth has been arrested while the girl was sent for medical examination, he said.
