Tension prevailed in Jadupur area on the outskirt of the city today following a group clash and attack on shops and vehicles even as prohibitory orders were imposed to control the situation.

Trouble began after a clash between residents of Jadupur and Sarakantara over a minor road accident yesterday, which led to violence and stone throwing, the police said.

While around ten persons were injured in the incident, several vehicles and shops in the area were also damaged, they said adding the administration clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC late last night to bring the situation under control.

Police personnel in strength were deployed in the area as part of efforts to prevent further flare up, they said.

However, sporadic violence erupted today with a group setting afire two shops in Aiginia locality, while some people tried to target the police personnel deployed in the area.

Police dispersed the crowd and also conducted flag march at Sarakantara village.

The situation was tense, but under control, said a senior police officer.
