The tenure of Himachal Pradesh University Vice Chancellor Prof A D N Bajpai has been extended by six months.
Bajpai, whose three-year term expires on May 24, will continue in the post till a new VC is appointed. Governor Urmilla Singh clear the extension of his tenure.
Speculations were rife in the university circle that Bajpai will get another term.
The Students Central Association (SCA) of the university, spearheading the agitation for ouster of the Vice chancellor, had assailed the move and reiterated the demand for his immediate removal.
The SCA also organised a demonstration and threatened to further intensify its agitation if the demand for removal of the VC is not accepted.
