An international body which focuses on climate policies has ranked The Energy Resources Institute (TERI) among the top think tanks in the world.

TERI was ranked number two by the International Center for Climate Governance (ICCG), an internationally-renowned body whose activities focus on the design of climate policy and related governance issues.

The New Delhi-based think tank was ranked under the category '2016 Top Climate Think Tanks in the Rest of the World--Absolute Global Rankings' during ICCG's 23rd annual conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) in Athens in Greece, a TERI statement said.

TERI conducts research for sustainable development of India.

TERI DG Ajay Mathur said that climate change is a real threat whose manifestations are becoming apparent.

"In today's globally interconnected society, it is more important than ever to build a policy framework that can evolve and adapt rapidly to this growing threat.

"This system would need to be guided by extensive research, climate modelling capabilities and assessments of economically viable and technologically feasible solutions," he said.

He said it is in this context that the ICCG ranking helps highlight the scale and magnitude of work done by the think tanks working in the field of climate change.

"This (ranking) encourages and motivates us to continue to work with the global community towards building a greener tomorrow," he added.
