There was an urgent need to adopt sustainable strategies for access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) agenda at the regional, state and city level, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)'s Senior Director Dr Annapurna Vancheswaran said here today.
"Institutional arrangements should be adopted to implement sustainable WASH strategies and a PPP model could be helpful to achieve the same," she said at a Regional Dialogue on 'Localising the Post-2015 Development Agenda- Water and Sanitation for All' here.
As the water stress continuous to increase, it is imperative to realise that the solution cannot be provided by working in isolation but by forming an alliance of stakeholders to solve the larger issues associated with the WASH sector, she said.
''In a globalizing world, an increasing number of decisions are being made at the global level, which impact the less privileged. Hence, the aim of our Regional Dialogues is to localize the Post-2015 Development Agenda at the regional, state, and city level'', Vancheswaran said.
Two such Dialogues were held in Mumbai and Bengaluru earlier this month, focusing on urbanisation.
National Director and CEO of World Vision India Cherian Thomas said on the occasion "we must look towards inclusion and universality to provide clean drinking water and sanitation to all for sustainable development."
"Behavioral change is one of the most critical issues that we need to deal with along with the need to engage all stakeholders - government, community, civil society organisations, universities and private sector." he added.
