Term of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council extended for 6 months

Assam Governor has extended the term of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for a period of six months with effect from January 13 or till the date of the first sitting after completion of fresh polls to the KAAC to be conducted by the Assam State Election Commission, whichever is earlier.

The term of the present Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council has expired on January 13 on completion of its five year term, said a government release here today.

The State Election Commission has said it would not be practicable to hold the elections to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council before January 13 due to unavoidable circumstances arising out of publication of the Electoral Roll on December 12, 2016, the release said.
