Railways will launch 'mosquito terminator' a truck equipped with power sprayer mounted on a flat wagon tomorrow to fight dengue menace in the capital.

It will spray larvicides in water bodies around Railway tracks to prevent mosquito breeding in water, said a senior Northern Railway official.

The 'terminator' will be pressed into service at New Delhi station and will continue to run in the Delhi Division for a month in coordination with MCD.

The powerful sprayer will sanitise a distance of 50 to 60 m from the tracks. Two rounds of insecticides will be sprayed at an interval of 2-3 weeks.

"The water bodies formed along the tracks serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The larvicides sprayed over the water bodies would check mosquito breeding in the most effective manner. Manually it is not possible to cover such large tracks," the official said.

Northern Railway undertakes the drive every year after the monsoon in the region.
