The BSF today foiled a bid by a group of militants to cross over to the Indian side under the cover of firing by Pakistani troops in Arnia belt here, killing an infiltrator who climbed over the border fence, an officer said here.
"Today a group of armed terrorists reached close to the International Border (IB) on the Pakistan side taking advantage of the Pakistan bundh and thick wild growth in Arnia belt of Jammu district," the BSF officer said.
At about 1540 hours, terrorists opened fire to engage the sentries, he said, adding that the alert BSF troops retaliated with effective fire.

In the meantime, Pakistani Rangers also supported the firing by the terrorists.
"During the cross-fire, a terrorist jumped over the border security fence towards Indian side," the officer said.
The sentries shot dead the intruder, 50 meters from the border fence on the Indian side, he added.
The BSF troops retaliated strongly to the firing from the Pakistani side following which the remaining terrorists retreated, the officer said.
