Intensifying its efforts to press the Centre to support a Sri Lanka-specific resolution at the UNHRC, DMK-backed TESO today announced observing a dawn-to- dusk general strike in Tamil Nadu on March 12.
"It has been decided that a general strike from 6 am to 6 pm shall be held on March 12 throughout the state to insist that India support the resolution moved by the US," a TESO (Tamil Eelam Supporters' Organisation) meeting chaired by DMK chief M Karunanidhi said.
TESO appealed for support to all people cutting across party lines, especially from the working class and traders and Tamil enthusiasts.
It had earlier in the day conducted a picketing of Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission here and is slated to hold a conference in Delhi on March 7.
