Not a single section of society is happy with the Punjab government's policies, Union Minister Manish Tewari alleged today and asked the SAD-BJP alliance "not to take for granted" that its regime is going to last for a full five year term.
"The way things are going on in the state only indicates that it is the beginning of their (SAD-BJP) end," Tewari told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
"The economy and law and order are at their worst in the state. The state government is trying to make money by slapping arbitrary taxes on the people like the property tax on as small a house as 50 square yards in area," he alleged.
Such measures do not generate resources, he said, adding that the state government needs to increase investor confidence so that they bring money into Punjab.
"Farmers, traders, industrialists and the common man, everybody feels cheated and disillusioned in today's Punjab," he said.
Tewari said it was not important what Congress had done for the country, as that was for everybody to see, "but what is of concern to everyone is what those people aspiring to take power will do with the country as there is fear and apprehension being felt among large number of people".
Earlier, addressing a party workers meeting, the Minister who represents Ludhiana parliamentary constituency asked Congressmen to unite.
He said "certain mistakes" had been made in the past, but expressed satisfaction that Congress was united and everyone was working to strengthen the party.
