Union Minister Manish Tewari has sought National Martyr status for Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, who laid down his life during the freedom struggle at the age of 19.
Tewari, in a letter to Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, said Sarabha's contribution to the independence struggle was exceptional and unparallelled, and needed to be recognised and acknowledged in the same measure.
Paying tributes to Sarabha on the eve of his 98th martyrdom day, Tewari also sought renaming of Pakhowal Road after the freedom fighter.
