The first-level screening of teas received from 51 estates and companies for the 11th edition of The Golden Leaf India Award (TGLIA) was held at Coonoor in Nilgiris district today.
A five-member panel, representing major exporters and leading brokers, evaluated the teas that are part of the competition.
Conceived by United Planters Association of Southern India (UPASI) in collaboration with Tea Board of India, TGLIA is an annual event.

The process of selecting the best teas from various agro-climatic regions is based on a multi-layer screening process using a scoring system that captures various quality attributes of tea such as dry leaf appearance, infused or spent leaf appearance, liquor attributes such as colour, aroma, briskness and strength.
The final tasting session is scheduled to be held in April 2015 in one of the upcountry markets along with buyer/seller meet, Unnikrishnan added.
