A 26-member expedition team from Thailand was today detained at Sonauli checkpost for want of valid papers while trying to cross into India from neigbouring Nepal.

The group, which is on a five-nation trip, was also found carrying distorted maps of India.

"The 26-member team from Thailand was stopped at the border as some of the 12 vehicles in which they were travelling did not possess valid papers," said assistant commissioner (Customs), Brijendra Chaudhary.

The team has already covered Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan and Nepal.

They were found to be carrying maps of India in which Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh are missing.

Officials of the embassy of Thailand have been contacted and further investigations are on, sources said, adding that the vehicles have been parked in no-man's land.
