Thai woman drug peddler get 10 years jail

A 24-year-old Thailand national was today sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for drug peddling by a local court.

Patcharut Punsakon was arrested on April 29, 2008, by customs officials while she was trying to board a Kuala Lumpur flight from here.

A total of 4.9 kg of heroin, concealed in a secret chamber of her suit case was seized from her.

She was also charged for the offence under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Customs Act.

G P Elango, Judge of II Additional Special Court for NDPS cases held that the prosecution has proved the charges for possessing, attempting to export, conspiring and evasion of duty on prohibited goods like heroin beyond reasonable doubt.
