Union Minister of State for Tourism Alphons Kannan Thanam has been appointed as BJP election in-charge in Meghalaya, party sources said here today.
The assembly elections in Meghalaya are scheduled for 2018.
BJP president Amit Shah has also appointed the party's state core committee headed by Meghalaya BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh and comprising its vice-president Edmund Sangma, general secretary Bashailang Khongwir, treasurer Sarwan Jhunjhunwala and executive member Bianca Kyndiah.
Shah in a meeting with the committee in New Delhi yesterday impressed upon it to finalise the election strategy and also discussed his proposed visit to the state on September 28, the sources added.
