Three police personnel, including a senior police inspector, from Daighar police station in Thane have been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty.

The three policemen, including senior PI Ashok Jagtap, an assistant PI and a constable, were suspended yesterday by Thane Police Commissioner, a day after a Mumbai police team busted a prostitution racket which was allegedly being run by a local dance bar.

The Social Security Cell of Mumbai police had arrested 14 persons after raiding a dance bar in Daighar area on the Mumbra-Panvel road in Thane city, and rescued 57 girls who were working there on Wednesday night.

The bar owner and another person who was running it escaped, police said.

Bar manager Rakesh Shetty was among those who were arrested.

All the arrested persons were produced in a court yesterday and remanded in police custody for two days.

The raid was carried out after a tip-off by an NGO which claimed that Thane police had ignored its complaint, following which they informed the state DGP about it.
