Thane: constable arrested for bigamy, harassment of wife

A police constable was today arrested for bigamy and for harassing his first wife.

The accused was identified as Deepak R Kamble (31), attached to the Vartak Nagar police station.

Senior police inspector S S Kadam said that Kamble married a lady constable, his colleague, keeping his first wife (the complainant) in the dark.

He had married the complainant in December 2010.

After the second marriage, he also took away the complaiant's jewellery, and started harassing her, seeking Rs 2.20 lakh from her parents.

Police have registered a case against Kamble under sections 420 (cheating), 494 (bigamy) and 498 (cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code.
 

Both Kamble and his second wife have been suspended from service.
