Thane demolition squad stoned and driven away by irate mob

A police officer and a fireman were injured after an irate mob attacked a demolition squad with stones in the Wagle Estate locality on Thursday evening, police sources said here today.

Police inspector Milind Patil of the Wagle police station told PTI that the team had gone to the locality near the Jilanwadi Masjid locality to pull down the illegal shed constructed near the mosque which housed a madrassa.

However, even as squad members were about to start the demolition, one Ghulam Rabbani Ghulam Yajdani Shaikh went up the roof and threatened to self immolate himself, damaging the roof in the fire, the police official said.
 

He also provoked a mob assembled there against the demotition squad officials due to which they were attacked with stones, the police official said.
