A Thane-based real estate developer who had undertaken several projects under the SRA scheme in the city has been booked for allegedly assaulting a citizen, the police said here today.

According to PSI PG Pandit of the Rabodi police station, the developer Sanjay Pandey has been charged under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code, while the case is being investigated by the local police.

Pandey is a corporator of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) who had joined the BJP while nominations were being filed and contested the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections unsuccessfully against Shiv Sena nominee as well as present MLA Pratap Sarnaik.

The police complaint by Nallasopara resident Ramesh More alleged that Pandey approached him in 2008 and informed tenants of the building that it had become dilapilated, after which he asked them to vacate it.

The complaint alleged that in July 2014, Pandey asked tenants to vacate the building or else they would be assaulted. Out of fear, at least 17 tenants vacated the building, but the complainant refused to vacate.

Later, Pandey allegedly promised complainant Ramesh More that he would be given two flats in new buildings coming up in Thane and he wasd also promised transit accommodation.

More said that since he did not get any transit accommodation or the two promised flats, he went to Pandey's bunglow in Thane on Wednesday night, only to be threatened by Pandey that he would be killed.
