The Thane district rural police claimed to have solved the mystery surrounding the theft of copper plates worth Rs 1 crore after the arrest of one person from Jammu & Kashmir.

Senior Police Inspector Kishore Khairnar of the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of the Thane District Rural Police told PTI today that it was between December 23 and December 25 that a container loaded with copper plates went missing from the Bombay-Ahmedbad highway.

It was within the limits of Chinchpada village that the container's driver went missing, with the trailer containing copper plates valued at Rs 1 crore.

The LCB probing the case under Section 420 and Section 408 of the Indian Penal Code had a tough time tracing the trailer, in the absence of any clue.

However, the LCB team finally arrested one of the accused who is also the watchman of the trailer Sannikumar Gunjlal Dogra (22) of Aknur from Jammu & Kashmir.

His interrogation revealed that the driver of the trailer and three others stole the vehicle and its consignment was hidden in Silvassa, in other vehicles.

A Thane police rushed to Silvassa and recovered the entire booty worth Rs 1 crore stored in two tempos Kharinar said, adding that a hunt is on for four others including the trailer's driver.
