Thane police arrests ten; seize goods worth Rs 32.12 lakh

The police crime branch claimed to have made a major breakthrough today, in nabbing chain snatchers operating in the Kalyan and Ulhasnagar region, after the arrest of ten people from whom allegedly stolen goods worth Rs 32.12 lakh, including a large stock of jewellery was seized.

Addressing a press conference here today DCP (Crime) Parag Manere and ACP (Crime) Nagesh Lohar told reporters that officials of the Kalyan zone crime branch unit detected a few cases where the accused posed as policemen and looted citizens.

Those arrested were identified as Muslim Bagar Zafri, Jafar Manoj alias Javed Irani, Shaid Ali Kalam Zafri, Mohmammad alias Mammu alias Sanga Zakir Sayyed, Mohamad Ali Kabar Ali Sayeed, Vasim Yusuf Sayeed, Ambar Ali Annu Irani, Abbas Amzad Irani, Gazi Dara Zafri and Firoz Faiaz Khan, who happen to be residents of Ambivili.
 

The police has seized Rs 16.10 lakh worth of gold jewellery weighing 667 gms as well as Rs 16.02 lakh worth of stolen goods which include vehicles, official sources said.
