The Thane police have spread a dragnet to nab two people who made an unsuccessful attempt to break open ATMs of two banks in the city's Wagle Estate locality, in early morning today, the police said.

In the first incident, they made an unsuccessful bid to break open a Union Bank ATM at Modella Gram.

In the second incident, they made another unsuccessful bid to break open the Axis Bank ATM at Sankalp Chowk, which is located just a few metres away from the spot of the earlier crime.

Both ATM centres did not have any security, the police said, adding that based on closed circuit television CCTV camera footage, they identified the culprits and a search is on for them.

It may be recalled that it was on Tuesday morning that the Thane district rural police nabbed two people who had broken open an ATM at Manor and were about to empty the cash box.

The police said that despite warnings and guidelines after the Bangalore incident, banks did not take matters seriously and provide the requisite security to ATMs.

Miscreants target only unmanned ATMs for their loot, the police said.
