Senior Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde allegedly received a death threat on his cell phone following which security has been stepped up at his Maharashtra residence.

A police officer in the Thane Commissionerate on the condition of anonymity told PTI that police has provided extra security to his family at his house in Wagle Estate locality in view of the death threat issued to him.

Last evening, the PWD minister allegedly got a threat call when he was in his official bungalow in Nagpur, where the winter session of the Maharashtra Assembly is underway.

The unidentified caller not only abused the leader but also threatened to kill him.

Later, Shinde registered a complaint with the Nagpur Police Commissioner. The Nagpur police have already registered an offence in this connection and investigations are on, police sources said.

Taking the death threat seriously, Thane city police decided to tighten the security cover to his family members.
