K Thangamuthu, the fifth candidate fielded by ruling AIADMK for Rajya Sabha polls from Tamil Nadu before agreeing to withdraw him to make way for CPI's D Raja, was today appointed Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board.
"K Thangamuthu, Thirunallur, Thanjavur District is appointed as Chairman, Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board for a period of one year from the date of joining," a state government release said.
Thangamuthu was withdrawn from the June 27 biennial polls for six seats after AIADMK's administrative council decided to support Raja for the fifth seat.

Thangamuthu was originally not in the first list of five candidates announced.
He replaced a student wing leader Saravana Perumal, after the party's leadership came to know of certain cases pending before him.
