The AHSI's 'House Plant Show 2015' begins in city

A Four-day 'House Plant Show-2015' was inaugurated here today showcasing altogether 2,296 samples presented by 56 participants.

The Agri-Horticultural Society of India (AHSI) organised the show jointly with the Department of Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal and in collaboration with National Horticulture Board.

Inaugurating the 'House Plant show 2015', The National Library Director General Arun Kumar Chakraborty said "This is a promotional event aimed at mainly popularizing growing of House Plants as open space in cities is dwindling."

Speaking on the occasion, the AHSI President N G Khaitan said, "The House Plant show is being organized to create a common roof for all the vendors, growers and customers and also to create awareness about the importance of herbal and medicinal plants which can also be grown as house plants."
 

A special effort is being made in bringing about awareness on the importance of herbal and medicinal plants which can be grown as House Plants also, Khaitan said.

The Society has started in getting some assistance from Medicinal Plant Board and Department of Urban and Recreational Forestry of the state government to make it a successful event, Khaitan added.
