Seth Rogen's controversial comedy film 'The Interview' is coming to Netflix in North America.

The film starring Rogen and Franco, will debut on the streaming service in the US and Canada on Saturday, January 24, reported Huffington Post.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced in an earnings call that his company has acquired exclusive subscription Video On Demand rights for 'The Interview'.

'The Interview' was made available to cable video on demand platforms, Google Play and iTunes back in December.

A theatrical release was famously cancelled last month following a terrorist threat from the group behind the Sony Pictures Studios hack.

Sony confirmed earlier in the day that 'The Interview' has earned USD 40 million in online and VOD sales thus far.

Critical reaction has been mixed for the comedy about an assassination plot against North Korea's Kim Jong-un.

A UK cinema release for 'The Interview' has been announced for February.
