Ridley Scott-directed "The Martian" recorded a spike in Twitter mentions after media reports came out about the discovery of water on Mars.

The space saga, starring Matt Damon, received a boost from the Mars reports with users on the mircro-blogging site talking about the movie, reported The Wrap.

Prior to the news, "The Martians" was mentioned in 10,733 tweets but after the reports broke, the number of mentions sky-rocketed to 29,894.

The number then peaked at 38,979 and dropped back to a still-high 29,689.

By comparison, another sci-fi space saga Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" was mentioned in 5,990 tweets two days before its release.

"The Martian" is based on Andy Weir's science-fiction novel about an American astronaut (played by Damon) who is stranded on Mars and uses his scientific knowledge to survive.
