The Yoga Institute president Jayadeva Yogendra dies

Yoga guru Jayadeva Yogendra died here today, said the institute which he headed.

He was 88.

Jayadeva Yogendra is survived by wife Hansa Yogendra, son Hrishi and daughter-in-lawPranee, said The Yoga Institute in a release.

He was the president of the institute located in suburban Santacruz.

Prominent personalities, students, teachers, eminent yoga scholars and people from all walks of life paid their homage to the departed soul, the release said.

Jayadeva Yogendra was the son and disciple of Yogendra, who had revived classical yoga in the modern times by founding The Yoga Institute in 1918, said to be the world's oldest organised centre of yoga.
 

Jayadeva Yogendra's contribution to the application of classical yoga in daily life for the householders has seen benchmark programmes, a wide array of publications, research papers and editorials that cover a diverse range of problems, the release said.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) invited him to design the first standardised yoga syllabus for schools in the country, it added.
