The Kochi-Muziris Biennale will throw light on last century's theatre history of a central-Kerala belt by organising a two-day festival this weekend, focusing on the works of iconic playwright Thuppettan who hails from erstwhile Valluvanad fiefdom.
Being held at Tripunithura in association with Ekaharya Performance Festival, the March 21-22 event titled 'Vannanthye Kaanam' at Government Sanskrit College will analyse the contemporariness of the works of 86-year-old Thuppettan by staging four of his plays over the two evenings, besides a documentary on the icon and his works.
Thuppettan, a native of Panjal village south of Shoranur on the banks of Bharathapuzha, will attend the festival which features seminars and discussions as well, according to Keli Ramachandran, the curator of KMB'14 Performing Arts Festival.
The inaugural day will see Thuppettan, whose works are known for humour and insight into the common man's life, being felicitated by veteran theatre-person Nelson Fernandes. The function will be chaired by performing-arts scholar K G Paulose and addressed also by KMB'14 Director of Programmes Riyas Komu and Vasudev R Varma of Ekaharya.
