The maximum was recorded at 21.9 deg C, which is normal for this time of season, the minimum was registered one notch below normal at 7.1 deg C, the MeT department said.

Yesterday, minimum temperature dipped three notches below average to settle at 6.2 deg C while the maximum temperature rose three degrees above normal at 24.4 deg C.

Dense fog engulfed the city this morning reducing visibility which affected the movement of vehicles.

At Indira Gandhi International here, flight operations largely remained unaffected even as the runway visibility dropped to less than 50 metres between 8.30 AM and 9.30 AM.

Fog started to descend at the airport around 2.40 AM, reducing the runway visibility to 800 metres at the third runway (29/11) while visibility at main runway (28/10) remained above 2,000 metres.

Poor visibility at third runway forced the airport authorities to implement low visibility procedures (LVP), while the LVP was implemented at main runway at 6.15 AM, when runway visibility dipped to 1300 metres.

Between 8.30 AM and 9.30 AM, the runway visibility at third runway dropped to less than 50 metres, forcing the authorities to suspend operations on that runway as the minimum required visibility to land a flight using Category IIIB instrument landing system.

"Since the main runway was operational, there was no effect on flight operations," an airport official said.

MeT has predicted fog in the morning which would dissipate for a clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures is likely to be around 23 and 7 degrees Celsius respectively.
